One
of the most amazing Martin guitars I had the chance to play was
the Norman Blake 000-28 model. When the time came that I
could actually buy one, I want something just a little more
"special". So I ordered a Martin Custom, based
on the stock 000-28 Norman Blake. The modifications
included relocation of the 2nd main brace by 3/4 inch as
recommended to me by a long time Martin player. Plus
cosmetic upgrades to open gear chrome Waverly individual tuners,
35-style rear strip, gloss neck and headstock, and stamped neck
block that just says "Custom". The amazing sound
of this instrument pumps from a 14 fret 000 body of Spruce and
Rosewood, mated to a 12-fret neck with nutwidth of 1-3/4 inches
and a beautiful slotted headstock. Bone nut and saddle are
of course standard. The herringbone binding and finish
detail is perfectly done. This instrument puts out a big,
but delicate sound across
all registers. Certainly one of Martin's best efforts.
